The City of Boyne City is a town of approximately 3735.  "Boyne City grew 6% from the 2000 census to 2010, making us the fastest-growing city in Northern Michigan." It is situated along the Eastern shore of beautiful Lake Charlevoix, in Charlevoix County, with direct access to Lake Michigan.   • Job Opportunities and Bid Specs (click for listing)

  • Free bus service between downtown Boyne City and Boyne Mountain - It will run every Saturday evening during the ski season between 5 and 10 p.m. The expanded service is provided by Charlevoix County Transit and in cooperation with Boyne City Main Street and support from local businesses. Limited demand-response service will be provided in the Boyne City area. Depending on demand, service may be expanded. Promotional opportunities are available. Businesses that would like to support the effort by sponsoring the bus service may contact the Main Street office at 582-9009 or email mainstreet@boynecity.com.
    SCHEDULE - The bus will leave the Mountain Grand Lodge front entrance at Boyne Mountain on the hour at 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. Saturdays, and will leave Boyne City on the half hour, with the first trip to Boyne Mountain leaving Boyne City at 5:30 p.m. and the last trip returning to Boyne Mountain from Boyne City at 9:30 p.m. The pickup/drop-off points in downtown Boyne City will be the Park and Water streets intersection and near the Boyne Area Chamber office on Water Street.

  • City-Wide Goal Setting - The session took place on Thursday, January 12th at the St. Matthews Parish Hall. Over 50 citizens attended the brainstorming event and many more are anticipated to participate via the online survey.  The results of the public forum and online survey will help chart the City's course for the next couple of years.   • Boyne City - Small town growth with character  There's a lot going on Boyne City.  The City's population surged by more than 6 percent in the last decade, new businesses are open, a factory is under construction and the list of community events never ends.  Some say Boyne City is the "jewel of Charlevoix County," but it's irrefutable that the town bucked economic trends in recent years and found its niche as a popular pace to visit, live or retire.   Full story from Petoskey News-Review

  • Downtown Ice Skating - A new downtown ice-skating rink may be installed in Sunset Park in addition to the already popular Avalanche skating rink and sledding hill.  Full story from the Petoskey News-Review.

  • Farmers Market moves indoors - On Saturdays November thru April the Famers Market will be held indoors in the red building on Ray St. adjacent to the library.

  • Boyne City downtown seeks spot on National Register of Historic Places - Commissioner in Boyne City agreed to seek recognition for a portion of downtown to be listed as a district on the National Register of Historic Places.  Full story from Petoskey News-Review

  • Wednesday, August 10, 2011 - Medical equipment company to expand to Boyne City creating up to 100 jobs (From the Petoskey News-Review) A Michigan-based medical equipment manufacturing company is set to expand to Boyne City. Precision Edge produces high quality medical tools in Sault Ste. Marie and intends to build a new factory this year in Boyne City for a total building and equipment investment of $5.8 million. Full story.  The ground breaking ceremony took place on Monday, August 29th. This sign indicates that the City is reviewing or considering plans that may have an effect on the area adjacent to or near the area of the sign or the community as a whole. These plans may include, but are not limited to; street reconstruction, water, sewer, or storm sewer work, master plans, tree trimming, ordinance amendments or additions, planning or community goal setting, etc. If you see a sign and want to know how or if it may affect you, please call City Hall.

  • Hassle Free City Utility Payments - The City of Boyne City is pleased to announce a free new service for its water/sewer customers, direct debit payment. While you would still get a quarterly statement showing your usage and the amount due the payment would be automatically taken from the bank account of your choice, at no extra cost, saving both time and money. To sign up customers just need to fill out the simple enrollment form, also available at City Hall. Once application is completed drop it off or mail it to us at: City Hall, 319 N.   • Census figures have been released and Boyne City grew 6% from 3,525 in 2000 to 3,735 in 2010. This is a surprise, since the NW Michigan Council of Governments had predicted Boyne’s population would fall to 3,100. Other communities: Charlevoix down 16% from 2,994 to 2,513, East Jordan down 6% from 2,507 to 2,351, Boyne Falls down 20.5% from 370 to 294, Petoskey down 6.7% from 6,080 to 5,670, Traverse City up 1% from 14,523 to 14,674, and Gaylord down 1.5% from 3,701 to 3,645. The state population decreased 0.6% and Charlevoix County decreased by 0.5%. Census data for Michigan cities, counties and townships.
    Petoskey News-Review story: Shrugging off the economic recession, Boyne City grew by 6 percent to 3,735 residents. "Boyne (City) has sort of been discovered during the past decade," said Michael Cain, Boyne City manager. "I think we have been able to take advantage of our (good quality of life) and really show that," Cain said. "Hopefully, it is something we can share with everybody else to grow as a region." Full story .
