AIRPORT RENOVATIONS In 1998 the airport underwent some renovations as a result of a grant received by the City in the amount of $525,000. The grant was received from the Michigan Bureau of Aeronautics to upgrade municipal airport facilities. This construction project, which totaled $584,000, consisted of the following improvements: (1) Runway upgrading: The runway was lengthened to 4000' and widened to 75'. New aggregate base was added after the existing runway was pulverized, after which the entire runway received a new asphalt base and top course. (2)Taxiway/Parking area Resurfacing: The entire taxiway and a majority of the aircraft parking area was resurfaced. (3)New lighting: New MIRL's and REIL's were installed, and PAPI's were also installed on the runway's west end. All lighting is pilot-controlled.
